Sofia joined the NHC in 2014. Before that, she has worked with Nonviolent Peaceforce, a civilian protection group active in the Southeast Asia, East Africa and the Caucasus, with the Dutch section of Amnesty International, and other organisations in the field of conflict prevention and human rights.
In the past ten years, Sofia carried out fact-finding missions and research on human security challenges in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, collected data and reported on rights abuses in the East, Central and Western Europe. She led high-reach public awareness campaigns, as well as advocacy initiatives to advance the role of civil society in different areas of policy-making, targeting and engaging international organisations, governments and businesses.
Sofia holds an MA in Public Policy and Management, Development Studies from the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, and an MA in Argumentation from the University of Amsterdam.
