Sofia joined the NHC in 2014. Before that, she worked with Nonviolent Peaceforce, a civilian protection group active in the Southeast Asia, East Africa and the Caucasus, as well as with the Dutch section of Amnesty International and other organisations in the field of human rights and conflict prevention.
In the past ten years, Sofia carried out fact-finding missions and research on human security challenges in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, collected data and reported on rights abuses in Central-East and Western Europe. She led high-reach public awareness campaigns and advocacy initiatives to advance the role of civil society in policy-making, targeting and engaging international organisations, governments and businesses.
Sofia holds an MA in Public Policy and Management, Development Studies from the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, and an MA in Discourse and Argumentation from the University of Amsterdam.
