André Gerrits

André Gerrits is currently a Professor of International Studies and Politics at Leiden University. He was previously Chair of Russian History and Politics at Leiden University and Jean Monnet Chair of European Studies at the University of Amsterdam. Additionally, Gerrits was Senior Research Fellow at the Clingendael Netherlands Institute of International Studies. His main fields of interest include world politics, Russian domestic and international politics and EU external relations. Gerrits believes that human rights and stability in Europe are closely linked; this conviction is what motivated him to join the NHC and support the organization’s work in this field. He is especially interested in linking his academic work with more concrete social activities in the field of human rights. Gerrits is a historian by training.
