Christy Gamboa

Christy Gamboa joined the Netherlands Helsinki Committee in May 2023 as a Junior Programme Officer. Currently, she is involved in supporting the implementation and project management of various initiatives funded by both the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission, such as “Assistance in Implementing the Strategy of the Penal System in the Republic of Armenia (ASPIRA),” “EPTA II – Innovating Together: Connecting European Penitentiary Training Academies,” “Justice Reform Monitoring in Armenia (JUREMONIA),” and “Together against Discrimination: Building a Civil Society Coalition to Improve Access to Justice for Victims of Discrimination” in Turkey. Christy holds an MA in Development Studies with double specializations in the governance of migration and diversity, as well as public policy and management, from the International Institute of Social Studies, Erasmus University, and Leiden University. Before pursuing her Master’s, Christy completed a Law degree at the Autonomous University of Yucatan. During her studies, she participated in several criminal justice programs affiliated with the American Bar Association and California Western School of Law. She also spent a semester studying abroad at the Faculty of Law, University of Granada in Spain. Christy interned at a migration detention center in Mexico during her law studies and later worked for the Mexican National Institute of Migration for two years. Additionally, she worked as a coordinator for a youth volunteer group that visited prisons in Merida, Mexico. Prior to joining the Netherlands Helsinki Committee, Christy interned at the Hague Academy for Local Governance, where she facilitated and helped develop international training programs for practitioners worldwide funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
