
Dr. Iva Vukušić
Dr. Iva Vukušić is an Assistant Professor in International History at Utrecht University, and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of War Studies, King’s College London. She studies mass violence and criminal accountability, especially international courts in The Hague.
Iva spent a decade working in practice, as a researcher and analyst, at the Special War Crimes Department of the Prosecutor’s Office in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. Her first book “Serbian Paramilitaries and the Breakup of Yugoslavia: State Connections and Patterns of Violence” was published in 2022 in English and in 2024 in Croatian, and since, Iva has been providing analysis and advice to different stakeholders, such as the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, on accountability for crimes in Ukraine.
She is a frequent contributor to public debates on war crimes and accountability, and has appeared on CNN and the BBC; in the New York Times, the Guardian, Le Monde, Liberation, Der Spiegel, de Volkskrant, NRC, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, etc.
