Manifesto for Inclusion: Empowering Youth with Lived Experience for Penitentiary Reform

29 March 2024

Introducing the ‘Manifesto for Inclusion’ – a powerful collaborative narrative that aims to foster a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by incarcerated youth, and provides crucial context for effective and compassionate intervention.

Over the last few months, the Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC), Young Perspectives (YOPE) and the Dutch Custodial Institutions Agency (DJI), with Oberstown Children Detention Campus from Ireland, listened to youth with lived experience of detention in the justice system, and worked together to develop a manifesto of recommendations for a more youth-led, impactful approach in detention policies and practices.

Read the full manifesto and follow this space for reflections from both practitioners and youth with lived experience.
