Sjef van Gennip

Sjef van Gennip is the former General Manager of the Dutch Probation Service and remains an active Deputy Judge at the Court of Appeal in The Hague, specializing in criminal law. Van Gennip led the Dutch Probation Service for 13 years before leaving the position in June 2018. Prior to this, he worked as a probation officer and in several management positions in both the probation service and the Ministry of Justice. He has also been an active member in the network of the Confederation of European Probation. Van Gennip views strengthening the legal protection and government policies relating to vulnerable and disadvantaged groups as important topics on which the NHC is active. He is motivated in contributing his knowledge and experience in detention and probation to realizing the NHC’s objectives.

Van Gennip studied Law and Public Administration at the University of Utrecht.
