Marjan Wijers

Marjan Wijers is an experienced consultant, trainer and researcher in the field of human trafficking, violence against women, women’s rights, sex workers’ rights and human rights. She has worked for the IOM, UNDP, UNODC, the Council of Europe and the European Commission.

Being one of the pioneers of the Dutch Foundation against Trafficking in Women, she was closely involved in the development of Dutch policies on trafficking. Furthermore, she engaged in the negotiations on the UN Trafficking Protocol as part of the NGO delegation.

Currently, she is a member of the Advisory Board of Proud, the Dutch organisation of sex workers. Her research and publication record covers publications on the following topics: trafficking in human beings, honour-related violence, the position of female labour migrants and of sex workers, methodology development for exit programs for sex workers, secondary victimisation of crime victims, data protection and the implementation of the EU Directives on hate crimes and trafficking.

Marjan Wijers holds an LL.M in law (specialisation: international human rights) and a M.A. in social sciences.
