Brianne McGonigle Leyh

Brianne McGonigle Leyh is an Associate Professor at Utrecht University, Netherlands Institute of Human Rights. Her expertise includes human rights, rule of law, victims’ rights, and transitional justice processes. She also currently acts as Senior Counsel for the Public International Law & Policy Group and serves on the Advisory Board of Pro Bono Connect. Previously Brianne worked as Co-Counsel, Civil Party Lawyer for the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). McGonigle Leyh won the International Association of Penal Law (AIDP), American Branch, Book of the Year Award 2013. She has also been selected as a member of the Utrecht Young Academy. McGonigle Leyh is a part of the following professional networks: Netherlands Network of Human Rights Researchers, Landelijk Netwerk Vrouwelijke Hoogleraren, AIDP, and International Studies Association. Her motivation for joining the Committee is to contribute to a forward-thinking organization dedicated to human rights, justice and the rule of law.

McGonigle Leyh received her PhD in law from Utrecht University. She received a Juris Doctor (JD) and Master of Arts in International Relations from American University. She also received a Bachelor degree in the University Professors Program at Boston University.
