centerforlegalaid.comThe Center for Legal Aid – Voice in Bulgaria (CLA) is a grassroots organisation that advances human rights and access to justice for displaced people in Bulgaria. Since 2008, it has provided legal aid, strategic litigation, and advocacy for asylum seekers, refugees, and stateless people. CLA works to ensure fair procedures, protection, and dignified treatment in line with EU values. It also addresses challenges faced by women, including gender-based violence, the detention of mothers with children, and barriers to gender-sensitive asylum procedures.
About the Project
Stories for Change: Giving Voice to Migrant Women in Bulgaria
CLA’s project is motivated by the barriers women asylum seekers in Bulgaria face when trying to access justice. Discriminatory procedures, stereotypes, and gaps in protection often silence survivors of violence and marginalised women. The Center for Legal Aid addresses these injustices through legal aid and strategic litigation that challenge systemic violations in their daily work. Yet many important cases remain invisible because legal proceedings rarely reach the public. To close this gap, CLA will identify four ongoing or recent cases and turn them into short videos. A dedicated team will develop the stories, following ethical safeguards, and share them through coordinated campaigns and advocacy networks to strengthen awareness and support reform.
