Feminism Romania is a feminist, woman led organisation engaged in public awareness, civic mobilization, and advocacy to improve the situation of women in Romania. It was founded in 2011 with the aim to advocate for equal opportunities and gender equality and raise public awareness about gender-based violence and discrimination. The Association carries out various projects and awareness actions to inform the public about discrimination against women in Romania and to bring forward many issues faced by women—such as gender-based violence, poverty, lack of political power, lack of equal opportunities, lack of sexual and reproductive health and rights. Feminism Romania Association is a founding member of the Coalition for Gender Equality and a member of The Network to Prevent and Combat Violence against Women (VIF Network).

About the Project

“Thank you for the flowers, but we want respect.”

While Romania ranks last in Europe for gender equality, women’s issues remain largely absent from public discourse. Feminism Romania intends to extend their campaign #multumescpentruflori (thank you for the flowers), launched in 2017 on International Women’s Day. The campaign highlights the disparity between the superficial recognition of women on March 8 and the lack of real progress in women’s rights. Driven by a diverse group of feminists and community members, it seeks to nurture solidarity and increase visibility of women’s rights.

Communication Outputs

Project Communications

The flagship was the social media FEMINISM.E campaign (March 2026, Instagram and Facebook). The core message “Our struggles are interconnected” illustrates how the issue of gender equality is intertwined with other forms of discrimination, such as racism, LGBTQI+, abuse in schools and universities, housing crisis, etc.

Social Media

A total of nine social media posts on Facebook and Instagram, plus further videos documenting the 8 March protest, were shared:
