Health for All

FILIA’s project tries to address the lack of reproductive and sexual health services in Romania, where access to family planning, contraception, abortion, and health screenings has become increasingly difficult in recent years. Young people are especially affected by the lack of sexual education. Civil society groups have continuously advocated for reform but face institutional resistance, limited resources and coordination. FILIA responded by forming a working coalition to exchange best practices and develop advocacy strategies. So far, the project has mapped coalition partners, reaching 11 NGOs and three individuals, and has organised three coalition meetings. FILIA is currently carrying out an advocacy campaign and will continue collaborating with coalition partners.

Project Communications

• 5 public letters and positions were published over the whole project. The coalition chose these over a public petition because they allow faster responses to political changes.
• In this period the coalition issued 3 more joint positions on SRHR in telemedicine, the College of Physicians’ new Code of Conduct, and insurance restrictions due to austerity. Two were letters sent to specific institutions, and one was an online position.
• The Ministry of Health responded positively to the coalition’s position on the regressive abortion bill.
• The coalition also coordinated positions on PNRR funding, contraception reimbursement and reproductive health law.

Social Media

Their campaign, Sănătate pentru toate (Health for All), managed to reach thousands of accounts on social media with important information on how to navigate the local public health system. The posts covered topics such as healthy pregnancy, cancer screening for men, and prevention, combining practical guidance with accessible language.
