Catalyst of Change
Supporting a vibrant civil society in Europe
GLAS Foundation
glasfoundation.bgGLAS Foundation is a non-governmental organisation founded in 2014 that works to improve the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Bulgaria. It aims for full equality and protection from discrimination. The organisation works with businesses to create safe workplaces for LGBTIQ+ people and runs large public campaigns for LGBTIQ+ rights through art. It also co-manages the Rainbow Hub community centre in Sofia and plays a key role in organising Sofia Pride.
About the Project
Expanding the Sofia Pride coalition: a focal point to bring together movements and communities
Since 2017, Bulgaria has faced growing hostility toward LGBTIQ+ and women’s rights, which creates the need for a stronger and more inclusive Sofia Pride coalition. GLAS’s project aims to address this by expanding partner engagement, carrying out gender mainstreaming analysis of Sofia PRIDE, holding community meetings, conducting stakeholder outreach and completing study visits to exchange Pride practices. The GLAS Foundation has held key stakeholder and partner meetings and completed three international visits as part of this ongoing project. These efforts have strengthened partner capacity, consolidated support for Sofia Pride and deepened cooperation among LGBTIQ+, feminist and human rights groups in Bulgaria and abroad.
