The Ljubljana Pride Association contributes to the establishment of a society that will be non-discriminatory, inclusive and open to all individuals, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, sexual identity or any other personal circumstance. It was established with the aim of safeguarding the human rights and interests of LGBTIQ+ population. The association is as a youth-led, volunteer-based, non-profit civil society organization. The Association operates 7 thematic programmes: Safe and Inclusive Schools, Transforming Hate Speech, LGBTIQ+ Volunteering, Youth Programme, Inclusive Organisations, SQVOT, and Cultural programme.

About the Project

Unavoidably Intertwined: where climate justice and LGBTIQ+ rights meet

In the past years we have experienced a huge rise in hateful incidents and attacks on Pride Parades in Ljubljana and Maribor; posters get sprayed with nazi and ultra nationalist symbols and hateful messages; rainbow flags get burned and torn. Public space is becoming more and more hostile to LGBTIQ+ people, to feminist messages, to any positive messaging related to marginalised groups. And the media is becoming more and more complicit, they stopped covering certain topics, editorial politics are devastating and it silences journalists, so as a consequence the narratives people are exposed to are anti-human rights and anti-EU values and just hostile. Parallelly, climate justice remains one of the most ignored issues by the media, while being a pressing issue for young people. However their perspectives are frequently absent from climate and environmental policies.

This project addresses these challenges through intersectional activism: connecting LGBTIQ+ rights, gender equality, and environmental justice. It enables marginalised youth to share their views, concerns and proposals. In doing so, these young advocates can inform and engage with wider population, media, and decision-makers while enhancing visibility to the connection between human rights and climate justice movements. The project will enable us to reclaim public space and transform it with positive narratives.
