Mais Que Quotas
maisquequotas.ptThe Mais que Quotas Association was founded in 2025 after joining the Better Politics Foundation’s acceleration programme. It promotes gender equality in political office in Portugal and empowers young women with the skills and networks to succeed in politics and public life. The organisation raises awareness of women’s underrepresentation through campaigns, articles, and events, and runs a political leadership academy to prepare the next generation of female political leaders.
About the Project
Launch Campaign for the More Than Quotas Association and Raising Awareness of Gender Disparity in Local and National Politics
Mais Que Quotas’s project is motivated by the persistent underrepresentation of women in political leadership in Portugal, despite high levels of female qualifications. Structural and cultural barriers, such as limited networks, unequal opportunities, and gender stereotypes, prevent women from fully participating in decision-making. The project aims to empower young women by building skills, confidence, and a supportive community. It focuses on developing a communications strategy and producing content and campaigns to raise awareness of gender inequality. In the second half of the project, the organisation organises webinars and in-person events to connect participants and the public. As a result of this project, Mais Que Quotas will launch the 2026/2027 Mais Que Quotas Academy to provide training and mentoring for the next generation of female political leaders.
