About the Project

Solutions to Antigender Discourse and Actions: Monitorization, Consultation, and Cooperation with Local, National, Media, and Political Actors

The project aimed to tackle the rising anti-gender political discourse in Romania at a time when the country struggled to protect women and gender-diverse people and lacked reliable data on violence and inequality. The highly electoral year of 2024 presented a key opportunity for advocacy on these issues. MozaiQ promoted civic awareness and momentum for change through an information campaign, community empowerment, and stakeholder consultation. They ran strategic social media campaigns before the parliamentary and presidential elections, reaching 770,000 people. The team also developed a data monitoring methodology and produced an inclusiveness brochure that was widely distributed. Importantly, the organisation organised a conference with politicians and the press to discuss how stakeholders could support the cause through laws and advocacy. As a result, the project activated political responsibility for the cause and make gender equity a reality in Romania.

About the Project

Students for Change: Fostering connection and combating gender-based harassment in universities

The project aims to address the lack of political action and data collection on violence and inequality affecting vulnerable groups, especially women and gender-diverse people in Romania. Moreover, this project builds on the recent investigations that exposed severe abuses against women in Bucharest universities. It responds by building a coalition of student associations across universities to combat gender-based harassment. So far, MozaiQ has organised 10 meetings with five student associations and has held several meetings with stakeholders, which will later help to develop reporting tools. In the second half of the project, MozaiQ will create two reporting platforms: one for reporting gender-based harassment in the university environment and one for formulating an internal protocol of peer-to-peer reporting of gender-based harassment.
