Catalyst of Change
Supporting a vibrant civil society in Europe
Reka Si
reka.siReka Si, meaning "The River in You" from Slovenian, is an art and research institute founded in 2020 that uses art for inclusion, advocacy and policy dialogue. Its associated co-founder is the SIDE collective, a grassroots group of migrant, queer and women artists, including asylum seekers in Slovenia. Together they create alternative cultural and artistic spaces that support human rights, strengthen community voices and promote dialogue that reaches beyond borders.
About the Project
Gender Equality in Mobility in Slovenia and Europe
The project sought to address gaps in the implementation of gender sensitive asylum and migration policies and the limited awareness among refugees, migrants and asylum seekers of the laws that protect their rights in Slovenia and the EU. Reka Si recognised the intersectional experiences of migrant women and LGBTQI+ people, who often had fewer networks and faced greater discrimination. The team carried out participatory research through interviews and seminars, which encouraged discussion, community building and reflection. The project produced a monitoring structure and policy recommendations to strengthen gender equality in asylum, migration and integration processes.
Communication Outputs
Project Communications
Reka Si created several performances with seminar participants and produced a video that addressed false claims about migration in Slovenia. It also prepared leaflets explaining relevant intersectionality policies and formed a new group, Women 2 Women: Intercultural Forces, which reached many women.
