About the Project
#WithAMidwife – Together for your rights and health
Romania faces significant challenges in protecting women’s rights and ensuring access to healthcare. Alarmingly high maternal and infant mortality rates, elevated teenage pregnancies, and inadequate preventive care indicate a serious healthcare crisis. Midwives, despite their critical role, encounter barriers such as lack of autonomy and public awareness, which adversely affect women’s access to healthcare. The proposed project aims to address these issues by combining advocacy, monitoring, and grassroots action. Initiatives include raising awareness about midwifery, educating women and families on health rights, and training midwives in advocacy skills. By documenting systemic barriers and engaging policymakers, the project seeks to enhance women’s access to quality care and promote long-term structural changes, empowering both women and midwives in Romania.
