Online event: Protection of Fundamental Rights and the Rule of Law in the EU

09 November 2021

Together with the Legal Network for Protection of Democracy from Slovenia, the NHC invites you to an online seminar on the protection on fundamental rights and rule of law in the EU. The event will be held coming Friday, 12 November 2021, from 10:00 to 14:30 CET, where NHC’s Executive Director Pepijn Gerrits and Programme Manager Joeri Buhrer Tavanier will be part of the panel.

Continued rule of law backsliding and disrespect by EU member states towards the principles upon which the EU was founded reiterate the need to continue the conversation to protect the rule of law. Alongside raising awareness within our own member state, cross border cooperation is essential in creating lasting change.

In the last two months of the Slovenian EU Presidency, the NHC together with the Legal Network for Protection of Democracy , would like to reflect on the developments in the past months within Slovenia and the EU at large. The first session we will zoom in on the narratives and tactics that are used in justifying rule of law backsliding in Hungary and parallels that might be drawn to the current Slovenian context. In the second session we will look at regional relations, the impact of these relations and how we can use these relations to work together to better defend the rule of law. Find out more here.
